Bird Of The Month

February 2005

Fellowship Member Elena Laborde has submitted the Plumbeous Rail as her Bird of the Month

"While visiting my family in Argentina a couple of months ago I took a one-week birding trip with Wings/Sunbird to the north of the country, in the Andes, at 12,000+ feet most of the time. We saw lots of colorful, beautiful birds, but to be able to photograph this Plumbeous Rail without digiscoping gave me the goosebumps. Even if I never could take a picture without some branches in front of the bird, I have never seen any of the rails at home in the US at so close a range and for such a long time! Call me crazy, but this picture is my favorite bird picture of the trip. Would you have preferred a Toco Toucan?  Oh well…"
